Career Move for Prof. Dr. Benjamin van Giffen, Assistant Professor at IWI-HSG

Benjamin van Giffen worked at our institute for a total of 10 years: first as a Ph.D. student of Prof. Dr. Walter Brenner, later as a PostDoc and then as Assistant Professor of Information Systems. He is now taking the next step and will be working as an Associate Professor at the University of Liechtenstein from 1 September 2024.

During his time at the Institute of Information Systems and Digital Business (IWI-HSG), Benjamin van Giffen has significantly advanced the understanding and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in business. His focus is particularly on how AI and digital technologies can stimulate growth, increase efficiency and lead transformative change in organisations.

Personal highlights of his work in St.Gallen include:

  1.  Establishing and leading the Design Thinking for AI Corporate Innovation Programme to drive innovation through AI, establishing over 40 partnerships with leading companies and training more than 200 students.
  2. Research on AI governance, helping board members and executives to develop and implement value-creating and sound AI strategies.
  3. AI and digital business transformation: research on the digital transformation of business models through the use of AI and other digital technologies with partners in academia and practice.
  4. AI ethics, bias and responsible AI use: research on the responsible use of AI applied in academia and practice.

Benjamin van Giffen has enriched the IWI-HSG with his collegial, innovative and inspiring manner. His St.Gallen colleagues would like to thank him for the many years of excellent collaboration. At the same time, the IWI-HSG team is delighted about the opportunity that Benjamin has been given at the University of Liechtenstein and wishes him every satisfaction and success in his new role!
