GenAI as an opportunity and a challenge

Over 70 participants from practice and research came together at the "St.Galler Anwenderforum 2024" on 3 June. On the topic of "GenAI in IT: How artificial intelligence is changing the rules of the game", they exchanged views on the latest developments in IT through the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). The forum was organised by the Institute for Information Systems and Digital Business IWI-HSG.

After a welcome and an introduction to the topic, industry experts such as Georg Gabelmann (ZF Group), Annika Sophie Schröder (Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund), Carmelo Iantosca (AXA), Dr Naim Zierau (IBM) as well as Volker Seyboldt and Michael Mikusik (ServiceNow) shared their experiences and best practices for the application of GenAI in IT.

The experts showed how GenAI can help to automatise many activities in IT, increase efficiency in IT departments and thus support data-driven decision-making processes. The participants also discussed how GenAI enables new problem-solving approaches and how it can increase the competitiveness of companies in the long term.

The most important insights of the day:

  • GenAI can fundamentally change the way IT departments work.
  • Security and data protection requirements must be mastered.
  • Continuous progress in GenAI technology is expected, which will strengthen companies' ability to innovate.

The "Anwenderforum" provided participants with useful insights into the application of GenAI and digital transformation. Discussions and presentations clearly illustrated: Companies that use GenAI at an early stage can sustainably strengthen their ability to innovate, provided they comply with security and data protection standards.
