Quantum computing: Opportunities, risks and challenges

At their spring meeting in Basel, the members of the Research Council/Institute Advisory Board - all of them high-ranking IT leaders - were informed about the latest developments in the field of quantum computing. A visit to QuantumBasel offered the opportunity to get to know the latest quantum technologies and their transformative potential for IT management.

Constantly evolving, quantum computing is a relatively new topic that the members of the Research Councils/Institute Advisory Board also have to deal with in their work as IT leaders. At the spring conference, various keynote speeches presented the latest state of research:

  • Timo Kob (@HiSolutions) emphasized the urgency of making today's IT systems quantum-proof—even though precise future requirements are still uncertain.
  • Julian Jang-Jaccard (@armasuisse) shared valuable strategies for adopting quantum technologies, providing insights from early adopters and practical approaches.
  • Fabian Schewetofski (Migrosbank) discussed the rapid developments in quantum computing, highlighting both the risks and opportunities for the finance sector.
  • Filippo Fratini (Erste Bank) gave a practical perspective on Erste Bank's current experiences with quantum computing, including key technological and organizational challenge

Mutual exchange and a visit to QuantumBasel were further highlights of the conference. Special thanks go to Damir Bogdan from QuantumBasel for his generous hospitality.
