Open Banking, Open Insurance, Open Everything...

This topic was the focus of the IWI-HSG Research Council/Institute Advisory Board at its autumn meeting in St. Gallen. The high-ranking IT executives were informed about the opportunities and challenges of the new "openness" in data exchange. The joint development of specific use cases for collaboration in the context of "Open Everything" was particularly exciting.

‘What keeps you up at night?’ This question opened a discussion on the most important topics currently on the agenda of IT executives. Based on this, Prof. Jan Marco Leimeister gave participants an overview of current research at IWI-HSG and an insight into ongoing academic work.

The highlight of the day was an intense discussion of the overarching topic "Open Banking, Open Insurance, Open Everything: Opportunities and Challenges": "Open Everything" describes the consistent further development of open banking and open insurance, in which the principles of openness, standardised interfaces and data access are being extended to more and more industries and areas of life. It stands for a connected, interoperable and customer-centric world in which a wide variety of services and platforms work together seamlessly and innovation is promoted through the free exchange of data. Together with Prof. Reinhard Jung and Dr. Meena Teebken-Glade from IWI-HSG, Dr. Stephanie Auge-Dickhut, Thomas Zerndt and Stefan Knaus from the Business Engineering Institute (BEI St.Gallen) introduced the highly relevant topic and led an exciting, interactive workshop. Participants had the opportunity to exchange perspectives, question assumptions and jointly develop concrete use cases for collaboration in the context of ‘Open Everything’. This created a solid base for future research collaborations.

The meeting of the Research Council/Institute Advisory Board took place at Start Global in St.Gallen – a location full of innovative spirit and start-up energy that perfectly matched the chosen topic.
